Manana dismisses rumours about Mpumalanga Premier’s arrest

6 May 2010

Mpumalanga Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Sibongile Manana is disputing the malicious rumours circulating around that the South African Police Service raided the residence of the Mpumalanga Premier Mr David Mabuza and that he was arrested.

A derogatory SMS has been doing the rounds suggesting that the residences of the Premier have been raided by the police this week where they allegedly found amongst others millions of Rands in cash, fire-arms and incriminating documents.

MEC Manana says not a single police officer went into the residence of Premier Mabuza to raid or to make an arrest.

“I am in constant touch with senior management of SAPS, even the Provincial Commissioner has never indicated anything untoward about the Premier.
“I am calling on the people who are behind this horrible fabrication of lies to stop defaming our Premier. They are creating an unnecessary panic and are damaging the image of our province,” says MEC Manana.
“I have instructed the police to investigate and establish the author of this SMS, and arrest those involved in this mischievous act,” she says.

She explains that the Premier is busy doing his normal daily administration and public relations work.
