MEC Shongwe sends condolences to the families of 14 victims of collapsed bridge

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Mr Vusi Shongwe sends condolences to the families of the 14 victims who died in an accident when the vehicles they were travelling in crashed in to a broken bridge on the road between Ermelo and Lothair yesterday [10 December 2012] at about 21h00.
14 People were found dead on the scene and eight were rushed to Ermelo Hospital where five of them were checked and immediately discharged.
MEC Shongwe says this is one of the accidents that has left not only the province, but the country saddened looking at the high number of people deceased.
“Although it was an un-avoidable accident, we continue to urge people to be more cautious when driving as the current weather situation may lead to more accidents.
In a situation where bridges overflow, motorists must not take risks as it may endanger their lives,” said Shongwe.
The department will soon visit the bereaved families and those who are injured.
