216 vehicles discontinued in Mpumalanga roads
13 August 2013
At least 216 vehicles were discontinued in Mpumalanga
roads by the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison traffic
officers between 05 and 11 August 2013 during normal day to day operations.
The vehicles include light motor vehicles, busses, mini busses and others.
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC
Vusi Shongwe urged motorists to comply with the law and co-operate with the
department in order to decrease the number of road accidents in the
province.
During the operations, 409 vehicles were also
impounded whilst 4786 fines were issued to motorists for traffic violations.
Fifteen motorists were also arrested for offences
ranging from drunken driving, reckless and negligent driving, false
documents and other traffic violations.
“Vehicles which are not road worthy contribute to road accidents and we need to get rid of them in order to save innocent lives,” said Shongwe.
The MEC said that these arrests will go a long way
towards ridding the roads of dangerous drivers who put the lives of other
people at risk.
