Shongwe in court to call for withdrawal of speedsters licenses
15 March 2012
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe is
attending Balfour Magistrate Court today, 15 March 2012 where he would be
calling for the withdrawal of driver licenses of five speedsters.
Among those appearing is a Free State Star soccer player, Manti Moholo
who was driving at 204km/h in a 120 km/h zone.
MEC says that Mpumalanga has had enough of accidents that are mostly caused by, among others, excessive speeding.
He says the withdrawal of Moholo and other speedsters licenses will send a strong message to other drivers who intentionally break the rules of the road and endanger other people’s lives.
Shongwe adds that that Moholo is a public figure and he was supposed to be a road safety ambassador by being more responsible as many people look up to him.
“Moholo’s behaviour on the day is an example of the type attitudes that our government is trying to deal with on our roads as it endangers other people’s lives. The courts should therefore assist to save more lives by terminating their driving licenses,” Shongwe said.
Moholo will be appearing for the third time today, was caught while driving on N3 near Balfour 7 February 2012. The other four appearing for speeding includes a Chinese man who was caught driving at 196 km/h, on 20 February 2012, While other were driving (196 km/h), (179 km/h) and (169km/h). They were all caught by Mpumalanga traffic officers while driving on N3 near Balfour.
