MEC Shongwe calls for community to assist hunt police officer’s murderers

19 August 2013

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe calls for community members to assist the police find the people who are involved in the murder of a Flying Squad member Constable Bheki Thobela.

Thobela was found shot dead in an idling state vehicle on the road between Krieg and Bethal last week on Thursday, 14 August 2013.

The MEC says that the police should not rest until those who are involved in the murder are found and convicted.

He had always mentioned that the killing of police officers is a great concern and can never be tolerated. The MEC has even came up with a slogan that says “Wabulal’ iphoyisa, wabulal’ umphakathi” (if you kill a police officer you are killing a nation).

He pleads with community members who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the officer’s killers to come forward

“SAPS will not be deterred to end criminality regardless of the attacks on its members. I am also appealing on the police not to be discouraged by such acts of cowardice but to instead continue pursuing criminals for the sake of our communities,” said Shongwe.
