MEC Shongwe takes crime prevention to church

21 January 2013

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe has embark on a programme of visiting churches to motivate the youth to stay away from crime.

Yesterday [21 January 2013] the MEC visited the Holy Cross Catholic Church in KaNyamazane near Nelspruit where he told hundreds of youth to respect their parents and stay away from criminal activities.

He encouraged them to love school and always be in church as it is where morale is regenerated.

“Pastors have a role of making sure that the youth in their communities do come to church and be made to realise the importance of school,” said Shongwe.

He added that parents must also assist government to end crime by reporting their children to the police if they are involved in crime.

The visit was part of the celebration of Police Day by the KaNyamazane Police Station. The South African Police Service is this year turning 100 years of service.
