Pedestrian safety campaign to be lauched in KwaMhlanga

23 October 2012

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Vusi Shongwe will launch a “think pedestrian safety campaign” on Friday in KwaMhlanga.

The department has noted that almost half of all the accidents and fatalities occurring in the country involve pedestrians and this has signalled the urgency in intensifying efforts to promote pedestrian safety.

Moloto Road’s R573 has been identified as one roads with the highest number of pedestrian fatalities in the province. Consequently, the campaign is implemented in the Phola Park near KwaMhlanga.

Furthermore as part of interventions, all schools, taxi associations and churches around the identified area will be visited by Road Safety practitioners to increase road safety awareness on the day of the event and beyond.

The media is invited to a launch that has been planned as follows:

  • Date: Friday, 26 October 2012
  • Time: 10h00 to 11h45
  • Venue: Moloto Road, R573

MEC Shongwe and his entourage will later visit the Thembisile Hani Local Municipality Driving Licence Centre in KwaMhlanga.
