Department enrolls Traffic Safety Learners

29 June 2012

Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison will enrol young people into Road Traffic Law Enforcement (NQF level 4) Learnership Programme in the current financial year.

According to the Department’s Senior Human Resources Manager, Bawinile Mabuza, the recruitment of the learners would not only assist in addressing skills shortage for the department but is also part of reducing youth unemployment in the province.

She added that the exercise is also aimed at intensifying law enforcement in order to reduce road accidents that claim many lives in the province.

Mabuza explained that the enrolled individuals will be expected to complete a 12 months programme with the department and they will be trained in both theoretical and practical training in traffic safety and management.

She said that the department also has various internships and learnership programmes geared towards enhancing young people’s chances of being absorbed by the corporate world.

Mabuza says once the learners complete their training they may be employed as traffic law enforcers by the department and even municipalities as there is currently shortage of traffic officers in the province.

“We want to contribute to reduce unemployment whilst we also reduce accidents and general lawlessness by increasing visibility of traffic officers on the roads,” Mabuza said.

She explained that the process of enrolling traffic safety learners would be completed soon and the successful learners would be notified so that they could start training as soon as possible.
