Death of four Nkomazi community media employees shocks MEC Shongwe

31 July 2013

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe says he is extremely shocked and saddened by the death of four Nkomazi community media employees in an accident that happened yesterday (30 July 2013) near Malelane in Nkomazi Municipality.

MEC Shongwe is also sending condolences to the affected families and their colleagues saying that it is not only their families that have lost their loved ones but the whole media fraternity has also lost valuable members.

The four died in an accident that involved four vehicles. It is reported that a light delivery vehicle (LDV) that was travelling from Schoemansdal towards Malelane crashed into the back of another LDV before veering off into the opposite lane where it collided with a Toyota Conquest hatchback vehicle causing it to overturn.

A Toyota Camry Sedan subsequently crashed into the overturned LDV. Four people, who were occupants of the Conquest vehicle, died at the scene while two seriously injured people were rushed to a nearby hospital. The police are investigating four cases of culpable homicide.

Shongwe has reiterated his call to motorists to exercise care and that they should be more tolerant with one another on the road so that accidents are avoided.
