HOD FOR HEALTH APPOINTED

The Mpumalanga Provincial Government is stepping up measures to strengthen the state capacity. This measure is among the seven (7) key priorities of the 6th administration, geared towards improving the delivery of services. Since the upliftment of the moratorium, the provinciaI government has taken significant steps to fill critical vacancies across the Departments and State-Owned Entities (SOEs).

On Wednesday, the Executive Council approved the appointment of several key positions of Senior Managers in various Departments, during a special sitting in Mbombela. Among them is Dr Lucas Ndhlovu, as Head of the Provincial Department of Health. Ndlhovu is a medical practitioner with vast knowledge of working both in the private and public health sectors.

Currently, Ndlovu is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital in Garankuwa. He has previously served as a Senior Clinical Manager of Mapulaneng, Witbank and Themba Hospitals respectively. He is a graduate of the Medical University of South Africa (MEDUNSA).

His appointment is significant to achieve the aspiration of strengthening state capacity to deliver quality health services to the citizens of Mpumalanga. This was confirmed by the Premier, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane. “We are satisfied that Dr Ndlovu has decided to join our provincial government as Head of the Department of Health, to serve our communities. We look forward to his valuable contribution towards the advancement of health services in our province. He is a seasoned public servant, and we look forward to him to steer the Department in resolving service delivery challenges,” the Premier asserted.

According to the Premier, approximately six thousand (6000) vacancies have been filled since the moratorium was lifted in 2021 to strengthen the state capacity.
