EXCO ENDORSES APPOINTMENT OF NEW D-G AND BOARD MEMBERS OF TWO PARASTATALS

1. APPOINTMENT OF THE NEW D-G

The Executive Council of the Mpumalanga Provincial Government has endorsed the appointment of a new Director-General (DG) during a virtual sitting on Tuesday, 17 August 2021. The newly appointed D-G, Mr Makhukhu Mampuru is expected to resume duties from September 2021.

A graduate of the erstwhile Rand Afrikaans University (RAU) with a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree, Mr Mampuru’s resume boasts an extensive background coupled with vast experience in the public service, amassed during his stint as Deputy Director General for Business Regulations and Governance in the Department of Economic Development and an array of positions, including acting as Head of Department. The appointment of Mr Mampuru in this strategic position, is timely in light of the Provincial Government’s quest to steer the province towards an economic recovery and growth trajectory that create job opportunities and confront poverty levels aggressively. His strong research, planning, monitoring and evaluation knowledge as well as international relations experience puts him in good stead to achieve this mammoth task.

2. APPOINTMENT OF DDG FOR CLINICAL SERVICES IN THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT

The EXCO has further approved the appointment Ms Dudu Mdluli as the Deputy Director General for Clinical Services in the Department of Health. Ms Mdluli’s wealth of experience, skills and vast knowledge on Health Services in the Public Service was considered among the requirements for this critical position. Her appointment comes at the time when Mpumalanga’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is at an advanced stage.

Ms Mdluli is expected to provide the much needed capacity in the Provincial Department of Health in this phase of the province’s innoculation programme to achieve the herd immunity.

3. APPOINTMENT OF BOARD MEMBERS FOR MEGA

The Executive Council has appointed 10 (ten) non executive members to serve in the Board of the Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA) for a period of four years. The members were appointed in accordance with Section 7(1) of the MEGA Act, 2010.

It is envisaged that the members will bolster MEGA’s efforts of advancing the provincial economy, plummeted in the midst of the global recession and exacerbated by the outbreak of COVID-19. EXCO is satisfied that the appointment of these members will contribute towards the achievement of the objectives set out for MEGA. Their sufficient knowledge and experience, according to EXCO, inspires hope, and is envisaged that they will strive towards the following:

  • Development, funding and promotion of agriculture;
  • Property development, including the granting of loans;
  • Investment in respect of the province with special emphasis on the Black Economic Empowerment (BEE).
The appointed members are, namely:

  • Mr Thabo Motau (Chairperson);
  • Ms Dina Pule (Deputy Chairperson);
  • Ms Nombulelo Mkhumane;
  • Mr Jabulani Mahlangu;
  • Mr Melusi Masilela;
  • Mr David Maimela;
  • Mr Cyril Pule;
  • Ms Elinacia Radebe;
  • Ms Maria Mmatseleng;
  • Ms Nokulunga Mashele.
4. APPOINTMENT OF MTPA BOARD MEMBERS

Amongst the appointments approved by the EXCO is the 10 (ten) non-Executive Members to serve in the Board of the Mpumalanga Tourism Parks Agency (MTPA). The members are appointed in accordance with Section 12(1) of the MTPA Act, 2005.

EXCO views these appointments as a major step towards the Provincial Government’s quest to reposition the province as a preferred destination for international tourists. The members are expected to steer governance matters with a view to unlock opportunities presented by the location of the Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga, to reposition the tourism status of the province, amid the economic challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The members are appointed for a period of four years. They are:

  • Ms Lungi Mlaba-Dludla;
  • Ms Judith Nkosi;
