The Executive Council held a special sitting on Wednesday, the 26th of February 2020, at Mbombela.

MPUMALANGA LEADS THE WAY IN APPOINTING WOMEN ACCOUNTING OFFICERS

APPOINTMENTS:

Mpumalaga Provincial Cabinet endorses the appointment of Miss Sindisiwe Xulu as the Director-General for the Province. Ms Xulu joined the Mpumalanga provincial Governement in 2006, she brings with her a wealth of experience having served as an Accounting Officer in various departments including, the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development Land and Environment Affairs, Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation as well as the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport.

As the accounting officer Ms Xulu succeeded in turning around some of the departments that were underperforming, including one that had been placed under administration. She has consistently improved the audit outcomes of the departments that she was appointed as an accounting officer.

“I am honoured to be afforded such an opportunity to lead the province of Mpumalanga. I am mindful of the huge responsibilities that comes with this position and I am confident that I will do my best to serve the people of Mpumalanga" said Xulu.

The Executive Council also endorsed the appointment of Busisiwe Evelyn Nkuna as the Accounting Officer for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liason.

Nkuna joined the Department in 2003 as deputy director at Road Safety. In 2006 she was appointed as a director. In 2013 Nkuna moved from the Road Safety Directorate to the Traffic Law Enforcement Directorate. She was trained as a traffic officer and in 2017 was appointed as the head the Mpumalanga Traffic College.

"I am grateful for the opportunity and welcome the challenge,” said Nkuna.

The Executive Council’s decision reflect Mpumalanga’s commitment to advance the development and emergence of capable women in the Public Sector in line with the Presidents’ clarion call to prioritise empowerment of women.

Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane re-iterated her message as stated in the State of the Province Address. “It is time that deserving women are given a chance and opportunity to lead, we as the Mpumalnga Government are committed to making sure that we change the narrative by writing our own history as women”, said Mtshweni-Tsipane.
