The Executive Council held a sitting in Mbombela on Wednesday the 26th of May 2021.Cabinet noted that the country has entered the third wave of COVID 19 infections
Cabinet urged the people of Mpumalanga to continue to exercise caution and adhere to all COVID 19 regulations as the Province rolls out the second phase of the vaccination strategy.
Implementation of the Traditional and Khoisan Leadership Act
The Executive Council noted the progress report on the implementation of the recently enacted Traditional and Khoisan Leadership Act.
In implementing the provisions of the Act, the Executive Council directed the Department of Co-Operative Governance and Traditional Affairs to work in tandem with the Mpumalanga House of Traditional Leaders in order to augment the functioning of traditional councils whilst resolving disputes, enhancing democracy and promoting gender parity.
Progress report on state of readiness for Local Government Election
The Executive Council received a progress report on the state of readiness to provide logistical support to the Independent Electoral Commission as part of efforts to implement effective coordination of inter-governmental relations.
This support will include the provisions of the Provincial Disaster Management Centre as the central operational centre for the Electoral Commission.
Additional support will include ensuring that all voting stations are compliant to COVID-19 regulations.

Cabinet endorsed the appointment of the following Accounting Officers;
- Mr MC Morolo: Head of Department - Public Works, Roads and Transport
- Ms LH Moyane: Head of Department - Education
- Mr CM Chunda: Head of Department - Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs
- Mr S Ngubane: Head of Department - Co-Operative Governance and Traditional Affairs
The appointments are effective as of the 1st of June 2021.
