Technical committee set up to investigate challenges in Dipaleseng Municipality

The MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Norman Mokoena has set up a technical committee to investigate all the issues raised by the community of Dipaleseng in a memorandum handed to the municipality two weeks ago. The technical committee will consist of representatives from the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, civic organisations, business representatives and Dipaleseng Local Municipality. The committee will begin its work before the end of this week and will engage with the community and all the relevant stakeholders as it seeks to deal with the challenges in the area.

The task team has been set up following the visit by the Deputy Ministers of Home Affairs and Justice and Constitutional Development Messrs Malusi Gigaba and Andries Nel and MEC for Community Safety and Liaison Sibongile Manana and MEC Mokoena to Balfour yesterday. The Deputy Ministers and MEC’s held meetings with foreign national, religious leaders, business and community leaders. Once the task team has completed its report it will present it to the Deputy Ministers and MEC’s who will then go and report back to the community.

MEC Mokoena once again reiterated government’s commitment to addressing all challenges that communities maybe faced with. He urged the community to be engage with the technical task team and he assured the community that government will work with them to deal with the issues and will ensure that quality services are delivered to people. He also condemned the unwarranted violence, malicious destruction of property, disrespect of the rule of law and the violation of the rights of law abiding citizens by certain residents.

MEC Mokoena has also condemned the burning of a house belonging to a local leader in Thaba Chweu. He called upon the law enforcement agents to investigate and apprehend all those who have been involved in acts of violence and destruction of property. He has also warned those involved in acts of arson that they would face the full might of the law.
