MPUMALANGA CELEBRATES AFRICA PUBLIC SERVICE DAY IN DAGGAKRAAL

Daggakraal - African Public Service Day is a premier public service event in the African Union calendar and forms part of the programme of the African Union which was established under different names since 1994. It is celebrated provincially, nationally, continentally.

Mpumalanga joined forces with the continent in celebrating this years’ Africa Public Service Day on Friday, 23 June 2017 in a village called Daggakraal under Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme local municipality.

Department of Home Affairs and SASSA brought on wheel services (trucks) where people were assisted with birth certificates, registering child support grants and other issues that concern these two departments. All departments that exhibited their services were also allowed the opportunity to make brief presentations to the community members who gathered in Sinqobile Thusong Service Community Hall.

During her keynote address, Councillor Lindi Jele-Masina from Gert Sibande Distrct Municipality,a member of Mayoral Committee indicated how privilege and proud to have great leaders who come from the district that contributed and fought for freedom during the apartheid regime such as Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme, Solly Mkhize and Gert Sibande.

Speaker after speaker spoke about the significance of this day to the country and the continent as a whole. In particular, the Executive Mayor of Dr Pixley ka Isaka Seme, Councillor Phalaborwa Malatsi, emphasised the fact that public servants must serve with care and a positive attitude and should not abuse the members of the public when they require services.

“Government offices are not offices for public servants but are offices for all community members and should be utilised by all” said Deputy Director-General, Mr Jacob Mgidi from the Office of the Premier. Since Africa Public Service Day is celebrated on Youth month Mgidi encouraged the youth to access all services offered by government, especially serves offered by National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) which is a great platform or opportunity in fighting poverty.
