MPUMALANGA PREMIER ON A CRUSADE TO MOBILIZE PEOPLE IN THE 35-49 AGE CATEGORY TO VACCINATE

Mpumalanga Premier Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane received her jab publicly at the Iraq taxi rank in Middleburg, Steve Tshwete Municipality as part of the measures to mobilize people take vaccinate. This as the vaccination programme to inject people in the 35-49 age group, is intensified. The Premier implored communities, including taxi drivers at the local taxi rank to receive their jab as the country intensifies measures to build an immunity community to resist COVID-19 infections. "If you are vaccinated and happen to be infected with COVID-19, the virus will not suppress your immune system. But if you have not vaccinated, you can easily suffer complications that may lead to loss of life depending on the circumstances," said Mtshweni-Tsipane as she encouraged the locals.

Like all other provinces in the country, Mpumalanga has experienced a rise of infections since the third wave. More that 30 000 positive cases have been recorded so far with 611 fatalities and more than 29 000 recoveries. The Provincial Government is on a drive to reduce the spike in the number of cases. The crusade to mobilize for the vaccination programme, comes in the wake of the Province’s efforts to incrementally activate vaccination sites in an attempt to accelerate the phase three (3) COVID-19 vaccination programme.

Mtshweni-Tsipane also monitored the vaccination sites at Eric Jiyane Hall, Sydney Choma Banquet hall and Lighuis Church. She expressed her satisfaction about the number of people who were vaccinated at the sites. "I am very happy to see that people have come out in numbers to be vaccinated. I also urge everyone to continue adhering to COVID -19 regulations by wearing masks at all times, regularly washing hands, sanitize, and maintaining social distance," said Mtshweni-Tsipane.

She was accompanied by the MEC for Health, Ms Sasekani Manzini, the Acting Director-General, Mr Peter Nyoni and Health officials during the visit.
