MPUMALANGA PREMIER MTSHWENI-TSIPANE TO ENGAGE US INVESTORS AS PART OF THE ECONOMIC RECOVERY INITIATIVE

08 July 2022

Mpumalanga Premier, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane will engage the business community from the United States of America to invest in the Province. This as the Provincial Government prepares to host a trade and investment roundtable discussion on Tuesday, facilitated by the South African Embassy, based in Washington. The trade and investment discussions are in line with Mpumalanga’s economic recovery plan, in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, announced by the Premier during the State of the Province Address in February this year.

Mpumalanga is repositioning itself as a strategic province to implement a successful transition from the coal to renewable energy. With several coal mining activities in the Nkangala and Gert Sibande Districts, the province is putting measures in place for the realization of the energy transition objectives, in an effort to reduce emissions and the impact of global warming. The trade and investment discussions, present the Provincial Government with an opportunity to woo the US business community to invest in the energy transition project through funding and expertise.

In addition to the energy sector, the Premier’s package include the following investment opportunities:
  • Agro-processing;
  • Forestry;
  • Sustainable small-scale and community farming;
  • Land rehabilitation;
  • Convertion of solid waste into energy;
  • Tourism
The discussions will pave way for the US business groups and their South African counterparts, to collaborate on future business transactions that will benefit the Province, through infrastructure investments, to give effect to the Provincial economic recovery aspirations.

Details of the trade and investment discussions are as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 12 July 2022
Time: 16h00 (South African Time)

The event will be on Facebook Livestream of the Mpumalanga Provincial Government (@MPGov). The media is invited to join.
