MPUMALANGA PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT TO HOST A GBVF SUMMIT
15 October 2022
The Mpumalanga Government will convene a Provincial Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) summit as one of the measures to step up the fight against the scourge. Through the summit, the Provincial Government is poised to develop a clear action plan with set targets to eradicate the scourge.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has since declared GBVF a pandemic in the country. Through the summit, the Provincial Government is determined to formulate a multi-stakeholder approach to fight the pandemic, with community structures, law enforcement agencies and designated groups, as pillars, for the action plan. The summit is a build up towards the Presidential summit to be held on the 1st and 2nd of November 2022, aimed at cultivating a GBVF-free South Africa.
While the 2-day summit will explore strong measures to advance the fight against GBVF, however, progress, challenges and opportunities will also be analyzed to determine the way forward.
Details of the summit are as follows:
Date: 17 - 18 October 2022
Venue: Secunda, Govan Mbeki Local Municipality
Time: 09h00
Media representatives are invited.
