MPG INTENSIFIES COMMUNICATION SYSTEM THROUGH TRAINING OF PROVINCIAL AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT LEADERSHIP

19 March 2022

The Mpumalanga Provincial Government has embarked on a training programme to intensify communication between government and the communities. The programme has its genesis from the resolution of the Executive Council (EXCO) adopted in November last year.

The training focuses on the National Communication Policy, Media engagement and Social Media. To achieve this, a team of Communication specialists from the Government Communication and Information Systems (GCIS) and media gurus have been assembled to conduct the training. The training is in line with the 6th Administration’s key priorities of strengthening the capacity of the state and is customised to empower MECs, Executive Mayors and Council Speakers to communicate the fundamental issues of service delivery to the communities.

The training affirms the Provincial Government’s commitment to the communication objectives of keeping communities informed about among other things, service delivery, infrastructure development and intervention measures on socio-economic issues. The training is viewed as a pillar for the Provincial Integrated Communication Strategy approved by EXCO last year, which seeks to coordinate communication activities across the two spheres of government in Mpumalanga.

Twenty Executive Mayors and Speakers in total will attend the inaugural training. The first session took place in Gert Sibande District last week. The second session will take place in Ehlanzeni District on Wednesday, and the third and fourth sessions are scheduled for Nkangala District and EXCO next month.
