PREMIER MTSHWENI-TSIPANE CONGRATULATES A MPUMALANGA CITIZEN FOR WINNING AN INTERNATIONAL AWARD

22 December 2022

Mpumalanga Premier, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane has congratulated Mr Freddy Ndlovu, one of the six (6) winners of the 2022 Henry Viscardi Achievement Award. The accolade is in recognition of the role played by individuals who advocate for the rights of persons living with disabilities. It is named after Dr Henry Viscardi of the United States, a leading disability advocate.

Ndlovu, of Mbombela in Mpumalanga, is an advocate of integrated education and is instrumental in programmes aimed at addressing unemployment, skills shortage and eradication of communication barrier amongst the Deaf and Hearing communities. Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane says Ndlovu is an embodiment of patriotic citizens who dedicate their lives to serve humanity. “We congratulate Ndlovu in his achievement. We are so excited that his contribution to the designated groups in our society, is not in vain,” the Premier explained.

Ndlovu’s significant contribution to the development of human rights legislation and policies benefiting marginalized communities, the youth and persons with disabilities, earned him the award. He contributed towards the establishment of the South African Deaf Youth Development Organisation (SADYDO) and is a member of the Presidential Working Group of Disability (PWGD).

Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane says Ndlovu and many other like-minded citizens, are a base that anchor the vision of Mpumalanga, as a province of the rising sun.
