PREMIER MTSHWENI-TSIPANE AND EXCO MEMBERS TO ENGAGE COMMUNITIES IN BUSHBUCKRIDGE ON SERVICE DELIVERY
15 May 2023The Mpumalanga Executive Council, led by Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane will undertake a three-day outreach programme to the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality in Ehlanzeni District Municipality. Central to the programme is an engagement with the citizens and stakeholders on service delivery matters.
A community survey by Stats SA, concluded that lack of safe reliable water supply, inadequate employment opportunities, inadequate roads and cost of electricity, are the main challenges from the broad range of issues that were raised by the communities.
The Bushbuckridge Local Municipality has experienced massive infrastructure investments in recent financial years, to meet the aspirations of the growing population. These include, the construction of new schools, the expansion of road networks and water projects. However, violent protests, leading to the destruction of public facilities, such as schools, have been recorded as detrimental to the development initiatives of the Municipality. The prevalent cases of project hijackings by illicit groups, impact negatively on the finalisation of development projects.
Through the EXCO Outreach programme, the Provincial Government seeks to deepen public participation on service delivery measures. The programme is arranged as follows:
