Welcome to the Mpumalanga Provincial Government

PREMIER MTSHWENI-TSIPANE TO VISIT DISASTER-STRICKEN AREAS IN THE PROVINCE

17 February 2023

Mpumalanga Premier, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane will visit disaster-stricken areas in Ehlanzeni District, to monitor government intervention measures. This comes amid heavy rains and flooding that continues to wreak havoc in the Nkomazi and City of Mbombela Local Municipalities as well as the Kruger National Park.

The Mpumalanga Provincial Government, in collaboration with Ehlanzeni District Municipality and the two Local Municipalities, are distributing relief material to the affected families, with the support of the Gift of the Givers, a humanitarian Non Governmental Organization (NGO).

It is envisaged that support for the affected families and fixing of damages to the infrastructure, such as roads, bridges and houses will be accelerated following a decision to declare a national state of disaster, in terms of the Disaster Management Act of 2002 by the National Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

Mtshweni-Tsipane’s delegation comprises of MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Mr Mandla Msibi, Executive Mayors of Ehlanzeni District, and the Local Municipalities, Cllr. Jester Sidel, Cllr. Sibongile Makhushe and Cllr. Phindile Magagula, respectively.

Date: Saturday, 18th of February 2023
Venue: City of Mbombela and Nkomazi areas
Time: 10:30

For confirmations, contact Ms Sibongile Mkani-Mpolweni (Premier’s Spokesperson) on 082 967 2138.
