ACTING PREMIER ATTENDS OCCASION TO MARK CELEBRATION OF FIRST THE NDEBELE TV DRAMA SERIES

25 May 2023

The Acting Premier of Mpumalanga, Ms Sasekani Manzini will join community members in Kwamhlanga to celebrate the successful production of the first Ndebele TV drama series, Komkhulu. The story line of the series is performed in isiNdebele language and it depicts a Kingdom faced with a succession crisis.

The Acting Premier acknowledges the significant role of the Komkhulu series, in showcasing isiNdebele as one of the country’s indigenous languages and the cultural values of the Ndebele nation. She says the celebration is timely, as the country observes the commemoration of Africa Day, on Thursday.

Mpumalanga is rich in cultural diversity and as such the Komkhulu drama series is viewed as one of the pillars to enrich the Ndebele cultural heritage. Ms Manzini says the series is in line with the provincial agenda of promoting and preserving indigenous languages and knowledge management, and hope that it will inspire similar production projects in future.

Dozens of community members are expected to attend the function. Ms Manzini will be accompanied by the Executive Mayor of the Nkangala District and Acting Executive Mayor of the Thembisile Hani Local Municipality, Cllr Leah Mabuza and Cllr Eunice Malekana, respectively, during the occasion.
