MEMBERS OF THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL IN MPUMALANGA VISIT SCENE OF ACCIDENT AND HOSPITAL TO OFFER SUPPORT

Members of the Executive Council in the Mpumalanga Provincial Government visited the scene of the accident which claimed six (6) learners on the R104 road between Wonderfontein and Arnot in the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality. The accident occurred yesterday in a collision between a scholar bus transport, carrying several learners and a train.

Mpumalanga Premier, Mr Mandla Ndlovu has conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and wished the survivors who sustained injuries, a speedy recovery. Among them are learners, the bus driver and the train operator. “Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families for the loss. We are heartbroken to see the destiny of the children, with a bright future, cut short in such a tragic manner. May their souls rest in peace. We wish the injured a speedy recovery,” Mr Ndlovu stated.

The Premier delegated four MECs to visit the scene of the accident, the Morelig combined school as well as the Middleburg hospital, namely: Mr Jacky Macie of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Ms Sasekani Manzini of Health, Ms Cathrine Dlamini of Education and Mr Thulasizwe Thomo of Public Works, Roads and Transport. The delegation also visited the bereaved families, the school as well as the hospital to offer support.

The delegation of MECs joined Minister Siviwe Gwarube of Basic Education, Deputy Minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa of Transport, Executive Mayors, Cllr. Thomas Ngwenya and Cllr. Mhlonishwa Masilela of the Nkangala District and the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, respectively, during the visits.

A committee to compile comprehensive support measures for the bereaved families, has been established and will convene on Friday. Representatives of the Road Accident Fund (RAF) will also form part of the committee.
