PREMIER MTSHWENI-TSIPANE TO OVERSEE FENCING PROJECT AND HANDOVER OF FOOD SECURITY PROJECT TO BENEFICIARIES IN CALM

10 April 2024

In a bid to curb wildlife interaction with humans, Mpumalanga Premier Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane will oversee the completion of one of the fencing projects at Songimvelo Nature Reserve.

The Provincial Government has embarked on a fencing drive around the Province to ensure the restriction of wild animals into their natural habitat. The Kruger National Park is amongst the beneficiaries of the fencing project.

At Songimvelo the fence has been destroyed by wild animals, mostly elephants that are continuously escaping their habitat and cause massive damages to the farmers’ crops, mostly from Mooiplaas towards Ekulindeni.

Mtshweni-Tsipane will be accompanied by MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs, Ms Busisiwe Shiba, Executive Mayors and Senior Traditional Leaders. The delegation will also visit the Thobela Royale, which was funded by the Provincial Government. They produce peaches and nectarines and supplies major retails stores like Woolworths.

All projects are in the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality.

Members of the media are invited to the hand over ceremonies of the projects. Details are as follow:
