MPUMALANGA IS READY TO HOST SENIOR CITIZENS AHEAD OF THE NATIONAL ACTIVE AGEING PROGRAMME

As Mpumalanga prepares for the National active ageing programme, the Premier, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane says the province is ready to host all the participants. Dozens of senior citizens representing various provinces will participate in the two-day programme, scheduled to take place this week.
The programme is coordinated by the National department of Social Development, in partnership with the Provincial Government. It seeks to achieve the objectives envisioned by the World Health Organisation (WHO), which include amongst others:
- Older persons and development;
- Advancing health and wellbeing into old age;
- Ensuring enabling and supportive environments.
As part of the programme, senior citizens will participate in a range of activities including sports, dialogue, cultural and musical activities. A beauty contest will be held for females to promote self-care. A contingency of medical staff and care-givers across various provinces are assigned to support the programme.

Date: 21–22 March 2024 (Thursday – Friday)
Venue: Hoërskool Nelspruit, City of Mbombela Local Municipality
