PREMIER NDLOVU EMBARKS ON AN OVERSIGHT VISIT TO THE LEBOMBO BORDER

24 December 2024

The Mpumalanga Premier, Mr. Mandla Ndlovu will visit the Lebombo Border on Tuesday to monitor the flow of traffic. The Border records high volumes of traffic during the festive season as Mozambican nationals working in South Africa, travel back to their country for holidays.

The elections which took place in October 2024 in Mozambique, have triggered protests, and the instability is cited among the contributing factors which hamper the traffic flow at the Border. A multi-disciplinary team of law enforcement agencies is assigned to maintain traffic and citizens control. The team includes the officials of the Border Management Agency (BMA), the South African Police Services (SAPS) and Traffic officers.

The high volume of traffic at the Border highlights the importance of trade relations between South Africa and Mozambique, as hundreds of trucks cross the border into Mozambique to deliver goods.

In line with the oversight visit, Mr. Ndlovu will interact with authorities at the border as well as transport operators, including the public.

Details of the oversight visit are as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 24 December 2024
Venue: Lebombo Border, Nkomazi Local Municipality
Time: 12:00

Members of the media are invited.
