PREMIER NDLOVU CONGRATULATES ELECTION OF THEMBEKA MNISI OF MPUMALANGA AS NEW SAWIC PRESIDENT
31 August 2024
The South African Women In Construction (SAWIC) has a new President. Ms. Thembeka Mnisi of Mpumalanga was elected unopposed during a National Annual General Meeting over the weekend.
The Mpumalanga Premier, Mr. Mandla Ndlovu is among those who congratulated Mnisi in her new position. The Premier says Mnisi is held in high esteem within the construction industry and this is evidenced by her election into the top position. “On behalf of the Provincial Government, I wish to congratulate Ms. Thembeka Mnisi in her election as President, and all other members of the Executive. This signals the confidence of the stakeholders in Mnisi’s leadership acumen. Her experience and understanding of the construction industry is essential for her to advance the vision of SAWIC,” Mr. Ndlovu asserted.
SAWIC was established in 1999 to advance the role of women in the construction and built environment industry. The organization coordinates advocacy, training and networking sessions to support women entrepreneurs, professionals and workers in construction.
The Premier is optimistic that Mnisi will bolster the working relationship with government to confront challenges that are a threat towards the realization of common ideals of the construction and built industry. He cited the construction mafia, as the main challenge. “The President, Mr Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa declared South Africa, a construction site, at the opening of the National Assembly earlier this year. The construction mafia which extorts money from businesses and construction projects are an obstacle that government and all stakeholders, including SAWIC, must isolate, in order to achieve the ideals of the construction site as declared by the President,” the Premier stressed.
Before her election as President of SAWIC, Mnisi served as Chairperson of the organization in Mpumalanga, and is a successful entrepreneur.
